CONFERENCE OVERVIEW AND COVERAGE <p>India is committed to a gas-based economy, increasing gas share in Indian energy basket from 6.2% in 2019 to 15% by 2030 as against the world average of 24%. A recent report “Road Map for a Robust Gas Bases Economy in India” concludes a 5.6% growth year on year leading to 15% gas consumption by 2030. Quantitatively it would be a volume of 600 mmscmd of Natural gas, out of which CGD alone will account for above 50% of the consumption.</p><br><br><p>Starting with a humble beginning in 1992, CGD had achieved 43 lakh household connections and 1,450 CNG stations accounting for 25.01 mmscmd of gas consumption by October 2018. Till the 8th round of bidding, 10% area and 18% population of India was covered for gas supply and after 9th and 10th round of bidding, total coverage of 53% area with 70% population has been accomplished. This expansion calls for a capital outlay of Rs. 200,000 Cr. Interestingly the 11th bidding round too is around the corner.</p><br><br><p>The quintessential question of what needs to be done to sustain such a fast-growing trend in CGD, has been discussed on several, occasions and every time new alternatives emerge. Looking at the growth trends of CGD for two and a half decades, the committed work program is highly ambitious. The last Workshop on “C&P as an accelerator to CGD Project Implementation” organized by Resonance Energy, brought forth that Capacity Building & Skill Development, Standardization of Products & Services, New Technology and Innovation” will drive the CGD projects.
